“The school makes good use of its work with other schools within the cluster to promote creativity and to widen the range of sporting activities during and out of the school day” – OFSTED report November, 2010.
We run to an extensive and impressive range of PE activities, using our high quality resources and great outdoor facilities. We also jump to take up opportunities provided by our school sport partners. This has led to a remarkable range of sports activities. In addition, we are able to provide a term’s swimming for every child.
The children play football, netball, hockey and rugby. On top of that they have been able to enjoy professional coaching in tennis, archery, fencing – protective gear and safe plastic foils are provided – and tri-golf, which involves the basic skills of the game only played in a limited space. Fencing has been especially successful and class time has been scheduled so Year 3 and 4 children can work towards a level one fencing award.
“A majority of parents and carers responded to the questionnaire...Every parent and carer judged that the school helps their children to have a healthy lifestyle” – OFSTED report November, 2010.
We have gained the Activemark, an award which recognises provision of high quality PE and rewards our commitment to deliver at least two hours of sport a week to each of our pupils.
Our emphasis on PE has improved the fitness of our children and has led to impressive success in competitive sport in local events, including Small Schools football league, the Holt Rugby tournament, Cluster athletics, Aquathlon, the Norfolk Schools Tag Rugby Finals as well as dance festivals and showcases, and archery and fencing tournaments.
Sometimes we even get out the maypole – and try not to get in too much of a tangle.
