Care and Concern for the Community

“The school involves [the children] in its decisions through the effective School Council and pupils are proud to take on a range of class and school roles and to participate in community activities” - OFSTED report November, 2010.

The children are frequently praised both for the way they care for one another and for the energy and thought they devote to helping others. They are encouraged to take an interest in the wider world, far beyond our corner of Norfolk, through our ongoing programme aimed at developing awareness of global and environmental issues.

The children on our School Council agree which charities to support each year. They initiate and lead fund-raising activities, including cake sales, creative hair/casual clothes days and rhubarb sales!

“Through the curriculum and daily routines they build on their knowledge and understanding of the Christian faith and its impact on how we live; hence their enthusiasm to participate in and lead fund-raising” – OFSTED report, 2010.

Hindringham School has supported and collected funds for numerous good causes, most recently the Royal British Legion, the BBC Children in Need appeal and the Red Nose Day fund-raising drive in aid of Comic Relief. Closer to home, the Harvest Festival held at Hindringham Parish Church last autumn raised money for bee-friendly plants to be raised in our school garden.

“Pupils were particularly proud of their fund-raising efforts throughout the year and their support for a school in Malawi. As a result of this the children created religious icons, chose an African stained glass window image for the school computer background and discussed in letters with the children in Malawi how they celebrated Christmas. The school is also very much a part of its local community and pupils value what they do to support activities in the village and in church services”
